BENNER, Nancy Corinne (nee MacNeil)

October 16, 1934 – Fairview, Alberta
June 21, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Nancy Benner, beloved mother, sister and aunt of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the age of 83 years.

Nancy was born in Fairview, Alberta and moved to Calgary with her family when she was four years old. Ken proposed and they were married August 7, 1954. While raising three children, they managed “Pickwick Antiques” and enjoyed curling bonspiels, ping-pong and skating. Later Nancy and Ken worked together operating “Benner Plumbing & Heating Ltd.” They enjoyed many vacations with family and friends in their retirement years.

Nancy is survived by her loving children, Jennifer Burnell, Tom Benner, Jocelyn Benner (Norm Dhak); sister Betty Earle; sister-in-law Beryl Benner; brother-in-law Tommy Minton; and many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was predeceased by her husband Ken Benner on August 18, 2014; parents Emma (Tinny) and Don MacNeil; and her brothers, Don and Lyall MacNeil.

A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Parkinson Association of Alberta, #120, 6835 Railway Street S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 2V6, The family wishes to express their thanks to the caring staff and friends at McKenzie Towne Long Term Care Centre during Nancy’s final years.

We remember Nancy and her antique store, and a heavy gold wall-hanging cross Beth purchased there, and which Lisa now treasures. Our thoughts are with all of you at this time. With love and prayers.
