BENN, Richard Charles

April 6, 1959 – Regina, Saskatchewan
November 6, 2017 – High River, Alberta

Richard Benn of High River, AB, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017 at the age of 58 years.

Richard got hooked on Framing right out of high school when he started working on a crew with Han Construction. With his independent spirit engaged, he started Richard’s Custom Builders Ltd. and built hundreds of beautiful homes in the Calgary area.

Richard loved the outdoors and spent many hours telemark skiing, gardening, exploring nature and visiting his land in BC. Richard enjoyed just looking out over the landscape following various birds of prey as they migrated or hunted in the air around him. He loved softball and he was really proud of how the three teams he played with last spring made it to the semi-finals. Richard was very proud of his wrestling titles earned at Lord Beaverbrook High School.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Mikaela Benn and Lauren Benn; his son Jake Benn, his parents, Mary and Peter Benn; his siblings, Robert (Laurie) Benn and Helen (Gerry) Gitzel; his parents-in-law, Carol and Vic Johnson and many extended family and friends. 6. Ron and Cheryl Kendall :

Condolences from Kendall family to family and friends of Richard Benn. Very Fond memories of the times we spent on sides of soccer fields while watching and visiting as our children played as well at ball field watching our children play softball together or against. Miss those visits and relaxing times. Also the times we played slopitch with you and Dani back in early 2000s on some of same teams while are kids watched us for a change. If you kids need a hand with anything let us know, think Mikaela is friends on facebook with Cheryl so do keep touch, been few years since we have seen you at our own unfortunate loss of our son in 2014. Cannot be at service since we are out of town then but we send our best and hope to touch base with you kids sometime. Richard was a character and will be missed, miss his talks on life in general and how to tackle different reno problems with all his background experiences, been too long, hope to see you again in a better place. Richard and Dani are now reunited, but much too soon they left us all, wishing the best for their children in future!

  7. Jeevan (Jag) Mangat :

Condolences to the Benn family. Very sad to hear of Richard’s passing. Richard and I knew each other in Beaverbrook H.S., and he had the strongest arms and hands of anyone. This was a tribute to his wrestling prowess. After grade 12, I met Richard at our high school 25th year reunion, and had not forgotten him, and he had not forgotten who I was. We exchanged a few stories at the reunion, and then the years flew by. Even though we did not remain in contact after high school, I always remembered him as a very kind and polite person. Always of friendly nature. As the cycle of life continues, we shall all be reconnected with Richard.
I was stricken with grief when I read the obituary, and had every intention of attending his celebration of life, but have been stricken with the flu.
If I can be of any service to the family please inform. Richard left this life too early.
