Grant Pinzon Bates of Calgary, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the age of 93 years.

Grant spent many years in the oil and gas industry working for Western Geophysical.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters and sons-in-law Myrna and Terry Gowing and Sandra and Mark Taylor; grandchildren Scott (Megan) Gowing, Kevin (Joanna) Gowing, Andrea (René) Kletchko, Stephen (Zsuzsanna) Morgan, Christopher (Anna) Morgan; and great-grandchildren, Noah, Hanna, Marissa, Josh, Scott, Madison, Jessica, Cadence, Oliver; sister Virginia; and brothers Dan and Anthony. He was predeceased by his parents, Ormus and Garnet; his brothers Art and Ward; sister Janice; sons Brian and Ronald; and his loving wife of sixty-three years, Dora.

God saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered “Peace be thine”

A Celebration of Grant’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Fish Creek, 14441 Bannister Road S.E., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Graveside Service will be held at Queen’s Park Cemetery on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.

I knew him well, especially when he and his wife lived with us for a short time in Edmonton. He was a fine reliable hard worker and a loving brother. He was very supportive of his sister when she needed help.
    he endured painful tragedy when he lost both of his sons, your brothers.
