BARTSCH, Douglas Robert John

January 26, 1967 – February 5, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas Robert John Bartsch announces his passing on Tuesday, February 5, 2019. Doug passed away at his home in Red Deer at the age of 52 years.

Doug was a kind and thoughtful person who, despite challenges faced in his own life, dedicated many hours of his time helping those less fortunate through charity work in the Red Deer community. He was a giver, and he gave all he had to those who meant the most to him. His influence and advice to “follow your heart” will be fondly remembered by all those who loved him.

Doug will be most remembered for his devotion to family, and will be lovingly remembered and missed by his daughters, Dakota (Brayden) Sandberg and Rachel Bartsch, both of Utah. Doug is also survived by his father, Jay (Karen) Bartsch of Brooks, Alberta and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins residing in Alberta and Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by his loving mother, Janice Bartsch, in September 2018.

A private family service in Doug’s memory will be held at a later time. Condolences may be forwarded through In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to any charity of choice.

    I coached Doug (basketball) at William Aberhart High School and later on we both lived in Ranchlands (Calgary). As a player, Doug hounded opponents with the hope of causing a turnover; in Ranchlands, we enjoyed conversations anytime I ran by his home and he happened to be outdoors. His smile conveyed warmth and friendliness.
