Condolence from Elaine Bell on July 28th, 2018 7:14 PM

Sincere condolences to Doug’s family and many friends. I was lucky enough to reconnect with Doug on Facebook over 40 years after high school, and consider the time that we re-friended as a blessing. He was an inspiration, maintaining positivity and humor in the face of pain and a diagnosis that would have broken a lesser man. We were all so lucky to have known him, and he will be sorely missed.

Condolence from Lynn L’Hirondelle on July 28th, 2018 9:26 PM

Doug, you will be missed more than words can say. You were loved. Please let Mike know I am OK. God Bless, Lynn

Condolence from Mauren Simpson on July 28th, 2018 9:35 PM

Doug was such an inspiration to all of us with his courage and bravery battling this nasty disease. I’ve known Doug and Cheryl since I was a teenager so say 35 years and was blessed to reconnect with him on Faceboook in the last few years. His ability to bring a smile and or out right belly laugh to all of us even when he was not feeling very good was amazing to me. I will miss our conversations about the cosmos the most. You will be dearly missed Doug but peace is given in the known fact that you are no longer in pain and rockin it out in heaven to Golden Earring. ❤

Condolence from Randy Hauer on July 29th, 2018 8:46 AM

Cheryl, Jen, Glen, (Charlene, Murray, Anne Marie, Jeanette),
Very sad to receive word that Doug was taken from you all. I was fortunate to have visited him at Agape and when I called in on Friday they let me know. What a treat to see him and visit after many years away. What came shining through was his dignity, courage and fabulous sense of humour. Those qualities were with him his whole life and never left him. When we visited he took me around the pictures on the wall and all he wanted to talk about was family. Agape is a beautiful place to visit with him and he said a raft of all his Buddies had been in. Thank you so much for letting us all have opportunity to see him, a true favour to all who called him friend.

Everyone felt “special” in his presence. He was interested in everyone and everything.
He could accent the positive and eliminate the negative as the song goes. It was always a pleasure to be in his company.
Thoughts and prayers to his dear wife Cheryl and his adored daughter Jenelle and son-in-law Glen, brothers and their families and all he found “special”.

Very sad to hear that Doug passed away. I worked with Doug for a number of years and have known him for over 25 years. He always had a smile on his face and had a great sense of humor. I often ask him gardening questions as he was an expert in that field. My only regret was that I did not see him prior to his passing. My condolences to his entire family. Doug Ball will be missed by all who knew him.

Condolence from John Chesher on August 31st, 2018 8:46 PM

At a time when Doug had a lot on his plate with his own struggles, he reached out to a friend of mine here in Australia facing their own C battle. Doug offered support, shared what he had learned and gave encouragement to my friend and his partner through their ordeal. He didn’t know them, didn’t need to. He was there to help.

That says a lot about Doug, but those who know him know that was who he was. I’m sorry for your loss Cheryl.

Time doesn’t take away good memories, it enhances them. Doug was a great character back in post school days and it never changed. Re-encountering him online from half a world away was great. We caught up again briefly in Calgary when Linda & I dropped in for one of our flying visits. As many have noted he was bright in spirit in the face of overwhelming odds. I had a friend here in Sydney who was facing pancreatic cancer and Doug was instantly wanting to contact and support the man and his partner. And he did. You know him; I am grateful to have known him.
