BALL, Bruce Allan

July 7, 1934 – January 21, 2019

Bruce Ball, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on Monday January 21, 2019 at the age of 84.

He was educated in Toronto where he worked for Markel Services, insuring fleets of transport trucks. He was a Company Vice President before moving to Calgary in 1971 to set up an insurance agency. He later sold new homes for a number of Calgary builders and then became a real estate agent.

Bruce was an avid tennis player and golfer, being a member of the Scarboro Golf Club while in Toronto and then the Turner Valley Golf Club when he moved to Calgary. He was a member for 25 years and served on the Board of Directors for several years. He also played bridge, belonging to four different bridge clubs upon his retirement. He had a keen sense of humour and was quick with a funny comment.

Bruce is survived and will be missed terribly by his loving wife Julie, children Roberta (Dave), Keith and Sheila, grandchildren Ryan, Taylor and Ella, and great grandson Hunter. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Kirk.

He will be remembered as a gentleman with a quick smile, soft voice and a sharp wit. He handled health problems in his last three years with dignity. He passed while resident at McKenzie Towne Long Term Care Home. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Darlington Unit who took such good care of him, Dr. Kobus Stassen and especially his companion Val Theoret who gave him special attention and care.

Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th Street S.E., Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers donations in his name can be made to a charity of your choice.

  12. Barbara Wells :

We are at the time in our lives where we are losing the people that were an integral part of our life’s experience.. I remember all the times we spent with you and Bruce enjoying ourselves over a great dinner and playing cards. Although there were times when playing bridge for Bruce with John as his partner was almost more than Bruce could bear. I can still hear him ask John “what were you thinking?” John just didn’t have the same love of the game and competitive spirit that Bruce had. And we can’t forget the fun times we had for many years decorating the tree at Christmas. You were the decorator, I helped but was usually cooking and of course the BOYS were toasting the season. What great memories I have of our times together. Now its time to say goodbye to my friend Bruce and wish him peace. My condolences to you Julie and to the family on your loss. I will be thinking of you on Saturday as you say goodbye to Bruce. Love Barb.
