BAIN, John McPherson

April 1, 1935 – Newtonmore, Scotland
February 11, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with heartfelt sorrow that our family must bid farewell to our father of 81 years: John Bain. After a valiant attempt battling illness, he passed away peacefully on February 11, 2017 at the Evanston Grand Village in Calgary.

John was born on April 1, 1935 in the small town of Newtonmore in Scotland. He was an adventurous and free-spirited individual, who was light of heart and generous to a fault with friends and family. He possessed an energy for building things, spending most of his working life as a tradesman carpenter. He enjoyed a full life with few regrets.

John is survived by his wife Margaret, his sister Sheila, his children Garry (Canace), Mark and Tisha (Bruce), his grandchildren Duncan, Justine, Melissa, Lené and Rory and great-grandchild Ivy, as well as many other cousins, nephews and nieces. He was pre-deceased by his parents Ella and Alec, and his brothers Sandy and Jimmy.

In his final days, life sought to challenge John; nevertheless, he navigated the difficult time with a grace and dignity that was truly enviable and inspiring and always maintained a positive attitude and a great sense of humour. And for us who hold his memory dear, it is characteristics such as these that will endure in our hearts and minds and are a testimony to our father and his life. John will be sorely missed.

As he often said: “Here’s tae us. Wha’s like us? Damn few, and they’re a’deid”.

Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of John Bain, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

Thinking of my cousins and families across the pond. Uncle John – the funniest person I know with the biggest heart. He was responsible for some of my most cherished childhood memories. I loved visiting his and auntie Margarets home filled to the brim with love, laughter and fun… it was an inspiration for me, always. I’ll miss you uncle John! Thank you for the memories and belly laughs. Love and light to my lovely family from London x
