AUCOIN, Margaret Rose

May 28, 1939 – Edmonton, Alberta
February 2, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta

Margaret Rose Aucoin of Calgary, AB, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at the age of 79 years.

Margaret was born May 28, 1939 in Edmonton, AB, to Stephen and Aileen Murphy, and was the second youngest of six children. Edmonton is where she grew up and began raising four children of her own while pursuing her love of Highland Dancing as a teacher and as a volunteer in numerous organizational committees. She also passed on a love of music and dance to her children, organizing family performances for senior’s centres, local television, and other Edmonton venues. Her family and friends knew her as a strong, kind, and thoughtful person who overcame many challenging life events to remain a source of positive energy with a bright smile and a love of laughter. In her post-child-raising years, she and her loving husband, Ray Aucoin, lived in Chilliwack, B.C. and were inseparable as golf partners and soulmates, cherishing every hole they played with their golfing buddies as members of Aquadel Golf Course. She considered the golf community part of her extended family. She loved the game of golf as a spectator and as an avid player and competitor.

Marg is survived by her brother, Terry Murphy; her children, Richard (Donya) Blakney, Cheryl (Craig) Sturko, Charles Blakney and Craig Blakney; her step-daughter Dina (Derrick) Goodridge; five grandchildren, Amanda, Kirsten, Mataya, Shelby and Evangeline, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the Hospitality Centre at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Alzheimer Society of Calgary, 800, 7015 Macleod Trail S.W., Calgary, AB T2H 2K6, www.alzheimercalgary.com. Marg’s family would like to thank the incredible staff at Southwood Care Centre, particularly the amazing caregivers in the Willowpark Unit, who cared lovingly for her as she progressed through her journey living with Alzheimer’s.

In living memory of Marg Aucoin, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W., Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  2. My heartfelt sympathy to all of Marg’s family. She loved to laugh – it’s my favourite memory! I’ve missed our wonderful phone chats from Chilliwack, where we solved all the world’s problems – as if we could! But we thought we had it pretty well figured out and our calls always ended in gales of laughter. She will be missed! Rest in peace, dear Marg.

  6. Geoff & Jenny Lewis :

I worked with Marg for 4 years. She was a busy bee with a heart of 100% pure honey. She was a ‘people pollinator’ that had a genuine love of life, a natural charm and charisma and the gift of engaging people to ‘join in’ and ‘have fun too’. She was a ‘fun fertilizer’ who spread her joy to all through her love of music and dance. Fond are the memories around a campfire with guitar and spoons. Marg and Ray welcomed us into their Moose Jaw home many times. We subsequently ‘followed them’ to Calgary and witnessed their love and hospitality once again and visited them several times at Cultus Lake. We have witnessed the growth of their wonderful family over the years and join you and the many friends in your grief and in her celebration of life.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4

  7. Lu & Gerry Blaney :

Marg was so fortunate to have such amazing children and of course, for those who knew her she deserved the credit. Didn’t know she was so talented. Yes, she was fun loving but would also enjoy Gerry’s serious chats. So many great memories at our family reunions. I loved Marg because she was Marg but mostly because she made my brother happy.
I share all the family’s sadness.
    Rest in piece, dear heart.
