May 11, 1935 – Assiniboia, Saskatchewan
September 1, 2019 – Calgary, Alberta
My beautiful, precious wife and soulmate Reta passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1st.
Reta was born to Paul and Grace Winslow on May 11, 1935 in Assiniboia, SK. The family moved to Unity, SK, where she and her younger brother Gary were raised and schooled. I met Reta at the University of Alberta in 1955 when she was studying nursing. Following her graduation in 1956, she worked along with her life-long friend Joan, as a nurse in Kitimat, BC. We married in 1959 and only a month ago celebrated our sixtieth wedding anniversary. From 1960 onward Reta was raising our wonderful family: Patrick (Janet), Kevin (Diane), Paul (Sarah) and Dana (Jason) Fleury. Reta was a loving grandmother to her ten grandchildren who will miss her dearly: Ali (Brad), Hannah, Kirsten, Rylie, Shannon (Kyle), Jennifer, James, Alice, William, and Thomas. She maintained a close friendship with a group of university classmates over the years, graciously hosting bridge and book club retreats at her cabin at the Bar KC. Reta was an adventurous travel companion, from South America to Europe, the Middle East to Asia, we travelled the globe together. She was a model of beauty, grace and kindness and I witness her positive influence on our children and grandchildren every day. In her final years Reta was blessed to have the care and support of some wonderful women, principally Wanda and Melissa Mullen, to whom I am eternally grateful.
My beautiful Reta, you will live in our hearts forever. Rest in Peace my beloved. – Gordon
