ANDERSON, Lila Ann (nee Swedberg)

December 13, 1927 – Camrose, Alberta
October 26, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Mom and Grandma on October 26, 2015.

Lila is survived by four children John (Beth) Anderson of New York, Judy Anderson, Wynne (Bob) Chisholm and Jeff Anderson, all of Calgary; and their father J.C. (Jack) Anderson; three grandchildren Leah Anderson of Denver, Colorado, Chava (Anderson) Tzemach of Israel, Jamie Chisholm of Calgary, and numerous nieces and nephews. Lila was predeceased by her parents Ephraim and Lila Swedberg; her sister June Gagnon, her brothers Gerald, Rick and Peter Swedberg and her nephew Shane Nolt.

Lila learned her work ethic while raised on a farm outside of Camrose. She became self sufficient from the age of 14 by living on her own to complete her schooling in Camrose. She was really glad when her Dad drove the team to town to take her home for school holidays.

Lila was a community organizer and active volunteer. She was a founding member of the Lakeview United Church. She started the first nursery school program in the North Glenmore Community Center and formed the local chapters of Brownie’s and Guides, where she rose through the volunteer ranks to be a District Commissioner. She enjoyed spending summers with the children at the family cottage at Gull Lake, AB, where she regularly beat everyone at leg wrestling and crib.

Once the children were older, Lila went back to school. She completed a Business program at Hollingshead Business College and the 4th level of the Registered Industrial Accountant program. She re-entered the business world as a receptionist and was promoted through a series of positions to become the Manager of Hollingshead Business College.

She put her entrepreneurial skills to work, creating her own business, Anderson Office Aides, which she ran successfully for more than twenty years. Not ready to retire after selling her business, Lila worked part time as an Executive Assistant for a travel agency well into her 70’s.

Lila enjoyed traveling to Scotland, England, France, Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and numerous U.S. destinations including Hilton Head, Palm Springs, San Francisco, Phoenix and Waikiki. She was a skilled blackjack player and was delighted that her winnings paid for many trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada.

Lila was blessed with excellent health and lived independently at home up until her death. We will miss her unconditional love, daily phone calls, and her flapper pies.

A Celebration of Lila’s Life will be held at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Lila Anderson, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: 403-241-0044.
