AMOS, Richard

Richard Amos was called home by our Creator on Friday, December 22, 2017 at the age of 78 years.

Richard is the son of Julia Amos, whose father was King Bearspaw, whose father was Moses Bearspaw, who was the son of the Great Chief Jacob Bearspaw. He served as a Bearspaw Band Councillor for many years. Richard received a “Return to the Promise “Medal of Honor and a painting for his service as a Councillor in 2000. He honored and held a strong belief in Stoney cultural and traditional way of life. Richard was a pipe holder and healer. He was kind, compassionate, generous, loving person who devoted his time to family. Richard had a sense of humor and always had time to listen. He was a quiet man and had respect for everyone. He was a hard worker and had various job positions throughout his life: as a gas attendant in Canmore, Deadman’s Flat, construction work on Seebe Dam, garbage truck driver, also was a Maintenance man at the University of Calgary in Kananaskis. In his younger years, he was into Boxing, and later into the sport of Rodeo as a Team Roper.

Besides his loving wife of fifty-five years Violet, Richard is survived by his children, Martina, Lorraine, Floyd, Verna; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; adopted sons Malcolm Apsassin; Garrett Benjamin; adopted sister Glenda Crawler; brother Dandy (Greta); his Aunties Winnie Francis, Barbara Rollinmud; cousins, Irene, Violet Rider; adopted family: Ernest (Belva), Jackie; and the extended families from Amos, Benjamin, Bearspaw, Daniels, Dixon, Ear, Kootenay, Hunter, Holloway, Lefthand, Wesley, Powderface, Poucette, Rider, Stevens, Snow, Stephens, Twoyoungmen and Wildman. We apologize if we have missed anyone as he had numerous family relatives from Big Horn, Eden Valley and Morley.

Richard was predeceased by his parents Dick and Julia; brother Wilfred (Caroline); sister Victoria; son Dwayne Twoyoungmen; son-in-law Woodrow; grandson Shane Amos, who was special to him; nephews, Fred Lee, Wilfred Jr., Andre Amos; Aunties Eliza, Alice, May; Uncle Albert; cousin Georgie.

Wake Services will be held at the Residence of Violet Amos (Morley, AB) on Thursday, December 28, 2017 and Friday, December 29, 2017. Funeral Services will be held at the Morley Gymnasium (Morley, AB) on Saturday December 30, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Bearspaw Cemetery (Morley, AB).
