ACIDO, Epifania Cadavona

May 28, 1922 – Philippines
May 3, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Epifania Cadavona Acido, beloved wife of sixty-nine years to Jose Acido (predeceased) of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at the age of 95 years.

Born in Dadaor, Bangui, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, Epifania grew up with a simple appreciation for life. She enjoyed being together with family and friends, loved singing, crocheting, weaving and sewing. While her husband went off to serve in the Second World War, she stayed home to take care of their children and their livelihood. Being the eldest, she helped raise her siblings and later, was an essential part in nurturing her grandchildren. On February 14, 1978, Epifania and her husband immigrated to Calgary. Ever the quintessential stay-at-home-mom, she was instrumental in not only taking care of her own grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was mother, grandmother, great-grandmother to many extended family and friends. Her patience, genuine love and zeal for caring was truly a godsend. Later on, she worked at Relax Inn as a chambermaid and helped in the laundry and worked part-time at Father Lacombe Nursing Home in housekeeping on the weekends. Although she didn’t have to work, she wanted to help support her family in the Philippines. She loved to cultivate her own beautiful flower and vegetable gardens. She was an avid fan of watching The Young & The Restless while taking care of little ones and was fond of cooking “mongo” and “adobo”. She was a blessing to us all.

A dedicated, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, she will be lovingly remembered by her four daughters and their families: Wenefrida (Vicente – predeceased) Soriano and their children – Wevilene (Nick) Pedronan, Vicente Jr. (Helen), Rodel – predeceased (Rosalia), Susan, and Joseph; Clemencia; Aniceta; and Angelita (Leopoldo) Liscano and their children – Michael, Christopher, Leo (Danielle) and Timothy (Theresa). She is adored by her great-grandchildren: Jennifer (Chris), Kevin, Vanessa (Armand), Shantelle, Vincent, Winona, Hillary, Samuel, Selena, Isabel, Ivana, Hannah, Jayden, Kyle, Quentin, Kingston, Lincoln, Sidney, Jesse, and Addison; and her great-great-grandchildren: Emily and Andre. She is also survived by two siblings: Chris (Paz) and Linda (Noe); and nieces and nephews: Editha (Efren – predeceased), Rick (Lena), Gigi, Jeanne, and Aine. Epifania will be greatly missed by numerous extended relatives and friends. She was also affectionately known as “Fanny” to many.
