ZAROWNY, Audrey

July 3, 1926 – March 10, 2012

Audrey Zarowny passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the age of 85.

Having served in the Land Army in Brighton, England, she came to Canada as a War Bride. First settling in Saskatchewan, then challenging moves to Trail BC, Bowness, Calgary, Bowden, multiple returns to Calgary, from Chatham ON, Langley and Creston BC and finally settling back in Calgary.

Always the elegant English lady, she enjoyed painting, needlework of all kinds, gardening, singing, volunteering, bingo night with the ladies, senior’s afternoon cards, watching Coronation Street and of course milk chocolate. Her family was the love of her life, treating each one as special, adding personal touches and notes to their cards and always giving ‘a wee bag of sweets’ to take home, regardless of age. Audrey had a warm and loving nature with a smile that touched everyone she met.

She will be lovingly missed by husband Al of sixty-six years; sisters, Nora and Doris, both of England; her six children, Kathleen (Verne), Stewart (Heide), Garry (Wendy), David (Karen), Donna (Steven), and Jo-Ann (Bryan); fourteen grandchildren, Richard, Sabrina, Christine (Shane), Sandra (Andy), Myles (Jennifer), Tobin (Chris), Charity, Adam (Natalie), Ashley, William, Laura, Kaitlin, Jacob, and Michelle; eleven great-grandchildren, Hailey, Joel, Wyatt, Megan, Ethan, Elijah, Jasper, Callista, Madison, and Carter; nephew David, niece Jennifer and their families in England; as well as numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews around the world. Sadly, Audrey was predeceased by infant great-grandson Benjamin.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (Corner of 4th Street and Northmount Drive N.W.) on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. A Private Family Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Even though Mum had a passion for gardening, in lieu of flowers, her wish is to consider a donation to a Women’s Shelter of your choice. The family wish to thank Dr. Adam Bass and staff, for their exceptional care over the past year.

In living memory of Audrey Zarowny, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.

    Al,

Audrey was the most amazing mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She always made time for me and treated my four children as her own grandchildren (even though she had many of her own). I know she was the glue that kept a very large family together.

I am really sorry to hear of her passing. I know she will be surely missed by her entire family.

  19. Bob/Maureen Sumner :

    Al and Family,
Our heartfelt condolences on the passing of Audrey. We have many fond memories of the “gang” up at Garrington Acres, around the fire, the “Gong” show and many more wonderfully fun and innocently fun things we all did at the acreages. I know these times were some of the best times for our Mom and Dad (Margaret & Earl)and they were always with you guys. Audrey was one of Mom’s best friends and she loved her dearly. She was quite the beautiful “English Rose”. I am sending this e-mail on behalf of myself (Maureen Sumner[Bob], David Clayton[Lori], and Muriel Wawrinchuk[Bill]. May her memory keep her alive in all your hearts!
    Our sympathies,
    Sumners, Claytons & Wawrinchuks.
    God Bless!
