July 3, 1926 – March 10, 2012
Audrey Zarowny passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the age of 85.
Having served in the Land Army in Brighton, England, she came to Canada as a War Bride. First settling in Saskatchewan, then challenging moves to Trail BC, Bowness, Calgary, Bowden, multiple returns to Calgary, from Chatham ON, Langley and Creston BC and finally settling back in Calgary.
Always the elegant English lady, she enjoyed painting, needlework of all kinds, gardening, singing, volunteering, bingo night with the ladies, senior’s afternoon cards, watching Coronation Street and of course milk chocolate. Her family was the love of her life, treating each one as special, adding personal touches and notes to their cards and always giving ‘a wee bag of sweets’ to take home, regardless of age. Audrey had a warm and loving nature with a smile that touched everyone she met.
She will be lovingly missed by husband Al of sixty-six years; sisters, Nora and Doris, both of England; her six children, Kathleen (Verne), Stewart (Heide), Garry (Wendy), David (Karen), Donna (Steven), and Jo-Ann (Bryan); fourteen grandchildren, Richard, Sabrina, Christine (Shane), Sandra (Andy), Myles (Jennifer), Tobin (Chris), Charity, Adam (Natalie), Ashley, William, Laura, Kaitlin, Jacob, and Michelle; eleven great-grandchildren, Hailey, Joel, Wyatt, Megan, Ethan, Elijah, Jasper, Callista, Madison, and Carter; nephew David, niece Jennifer and their families in England; as well as numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews around the world. Sadly, Audrey was predeceased by infant great-grandson Benjamin.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (Corner of 4th Street and Northmount Drive N.W.) on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. A Private Family Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Even though Mum had a passion for gardening, in lieu of flowers, her wish is to consider a donation to a Women’s Shelter of your choice. The family wish to thank Dr. Adam Bass and staff, for their exceptional care over the past year.
