Condolence Messages

  1. J Timothy Buehner :

To the Family of Serge Zaitzeff

Please accept my condolences at this time. I had taken a beginning Spanish class (at the same time teaching French for the Calgary Board of Education) from him when I first arrived in Calgary in 1967. He was indubitably the best language teacher I ever had. He and the family will be in my thoughts and prayers at this time

    Sincerely

    Tim Buehner

  2. I met Serge last July assisting him with flood damages/recovery in Calgary. He would drop in now and again to drop off info I may have requested from him and always shared with me a lovely story of his life and with such humor. He was fascinating and exciting to listen to. I was thrilled that he and his wife were able to go on a holiday after he was diagnosed. How sad to have lost such a lovely man with so many stories still to tell. To his wife Nawal, you were married to an exceptional man who loved you very much and I know the lifetime of memories you shared will comfort you always.

  3. Alvin Harms :

    Dear Mrs. Nawal Zaitzeff,

Please accept my sincere condolence on the loss of Serge. I met him when he first joined the department, although I have had little contact with him since I retired. I know that Serge was a devoted and outstanding scholar and a congenial colleague. We will miss him. You are in my thoughts during this difficult time of sadness.

  7. Hendrik Kraay :

I’m very sorry to hear of Serge’s passing. I didn’t know him very well because, by the time that I started teaching at the University of Calgary, he had already retired. But Serge was a regular at all of the activities related to the Latin American Research Centre and the Latin American Studies Program. He always had a kind word for the new people and regularly asked about how our work was going. He will be missed.

  10. Dear Nelly
I just heard about Serge’s passing from Fresia. I remember fondly my many classes with him over the years, and how, after retirement, I used to see him walking along Bow Crescent when I was on my bike. Many condolences to you and the rest of the Zaitzeff family.
