ZAHARKO – Anne (nee Spilak)

May 19, 1910 – September 4, 2009

Anne Zaharko of Calgary, passed away on September 4, 2009 at the age of 99 years.

Anne had recently celebrated her 99th birthday with her family and friends. Anne was born and raised in Calmar, AB. After marrying John, the two of them managed a business in Calmar for a number of years. In the late 1940s, they sold their business and moved to Sunnybrook, AB where they managed a general store. Both John and Anne retired in Calmar after a long stay managing the store and all the children away on their own. After the passing of John, Anne travelled to see her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When Anne’s health started to fail, Anne resided in a senior’s residence in Leduc for a few years and then moved to Calgary into the Bow Crest Care Centre to be near her family. Anne was a loving, caring, kind, and honest mother. She loved social gatherings, and, most of all, she loved to dance. She will be missed and remembered for her love and kindness, not to mention her excellent cooking.

Anne is survived by, her six children, Elizabeth, Jeanette, Zorea, Russell, Orest, and Kenneth. She had seventeen grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren. Anne was predeceased by her husband John, two children, three brothers and three sisters.
