Ingrid Gerda Zacharias passed away peacefully with her family at her side, on the evening of Monday, March 19, 2007, at the young age of 66, after several months of fighting cancer.
Although born in Neu-Sarata, Romania, she lived mostly in Germany until her teen years, prior to immigrating to Canada in 1955 with her family. She initially resided in Coaldale, Alberta, however, Calgary was her home for the majority of her life.
She is survived by and will forever live on through her three children, Karin (David) Mossman, Arthur (Marnie) and Martin (Carrie) Zacharias; her three grandchildren, Alexandra, Christopher and Amy; her brother Manfred Lukas; her sister Margot (Juergen) Jahn; and her many nieces, nephews and their children.
She will be greatly missed by all, as anyone who was fortunate enough to meet her would be touched by her love, kindness, generosity, smile and hugs which always provided a world of comfort. She was an extremely dedicated daughter, sibling, aunt, mother and grandmother, as she devoted much of her time to her family and their well being. She loved tennis (Mt. Pleasant Tennis Club), hiking, anything outdoors, singing and volunteering for her grandchildren’s various dance and music classes. She was an avid gardener and her gardens in the summertime would brighten the neighbourhood, create a smile and spark a conversation with strangers passing by. She was young at heart and enjoyed the simple things in life. She would demonstrate to us and remind us all to take, more often, time out of our busy lives to enjoy time with each other and for ourselves.
We are so proud of you, Mom. We love you dearly and are very thankful for everything you have taught and given us.
