February 24, 1953 – May 5, 2012
Neil Young passed away in his sleep early in the morning on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at the age of 59 years.
Neil was born in Winnipeg, MB on February 24, 1953 and moved to Calgary with his family when he was twelve. He worked in construction during his summers in high school which provided him with the motivation to continue his education. Neil earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Calgary in 1976. After university he worked shooting dynamite on a seismic crew in the Arctic to pay off his student loans. Neil worked in Sydney, Australia for a number of years. On his return to Canada, he was employed by Canada Post in property management for twenty-five years, first in Edmonton and then in Calgary. He enjoyed his travels to many countries but he still had many more places on his wish list. In the last few years, after becoming ill, he was an armchair traveller and enjoyed hearing his nephews’ accounts of their travels.
Neil is survived by his partner and best friend Mavis Legg; his brother Greg Young; his sister Lorna Boisjoli; his nephews, Calvin, Scott, Vance, and Dean Boisjoli; his niece Shauna Young and their families and his faithful dog Mishka. Neil will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Neil was predeceased by his father Wilbur and his mother Geraldine.
