David Ian Young of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the Rockyview Hospital at the age of 68 years, after a courageous struggle with cancer.
Born in Morecambe, England, Dave (Ian as he was noted in England) moved to Canada as a young man and embarked on a long career in pulp and paper and the oil and gas industry. His profession as an instrumentation tech took him to many places in Canada and the world, including the Middle East , South America, and the Caribbean. His last working years were spent working on projects out of the Calgary Fluor offices.
Dave is survived by his sister Heather, Niece- Kerry, Kerry’s children William (nearly 4) and Charlotte (6 months).Nephew-James Barnes and Aunt-Thelma Butterworth in England. His friend and “brother”, Dave Wong and his wife Jacqui of Vancouver, his special friend Louise Ingram and all Dave’s other friends. Our thanks to the caring staff at the Rockyview hospital, who attended to Dave in his final weeks of struggle and to the friends who called, visited and offered help in a time of need.
He will be fondly remembered as a gentle man with a fabulous sense of humour. Even in illness, he always portrayed a bright picture and told all who inquired that he was doing fine.
