January 5, 2014 – Yuma, Arizona
It is with much sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Monte Wygle on Sunday, January 5, 2014 in Yuma, Arizona at the age of 87 years.
Monte was born in Seattle, Washington and at a few months of age, moved with his parents and two brothers to the farm east of Crossfield which had been homesteaded by the Wygle family in 1904. Monte joined the United States Army in 1944 and was stationed in Edmonton, Alaska and Florida. He married Margaret Taylor in 1945 and they moved back to the family farm in 1949 where he farmed until his retirement in 1990. Even in retirement he still kept very active in the community as he had been all his life. He spent many wonderful winters in Yuma, always working on his favourite pastimes – golfing and bowling.
Monte is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Cameron; his daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Bill Byers of Vernon; brother Brien Wygle of Seattle; grandchildren, Randy (Susan Williams) Pratt, Andrew (Chris) Pratt, Matthew (Tannis) Pratt, and Pamela (Jeremy) Bensler, all of the Vancouver area. Also left to mourn his passing are twelve great-grandchildren; Shirley’s children, Mark (Jane) Cameron, Maureen (Jeffrey) Church, and Maxine Cameron and their children; Shirley’s siblings, Diana Satchwell, Russell (Jacquie) Roberts, Joan (Dick) Crawford, Brian (Rhonda) Roberts, and Gordon (Maxine Strain) Roberts; Shirley’s sister-in-law Joyce (Keith) Sefton; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
