He spent some years with Seaboard Oil in the 1950′s before returning to his first love, teaching. During his retirement, Val enjoyed a variety of activities: keeping a spectacular vegetable garden, travelling, running a house-sitting business, as well as a bed and breakfast, and in the last years, playing crib at “The Club”.
Besides his loving wife Claire, Val is also survived by their two daughters, Barbara Wybert-Thompson, and Donna-Lee Wybert, and her husband Roy Masrani and their three children, Vaden, Rhys and Teale.
