WRIGHT, Warren Neil

February 7, 1930 – December 8, 2012

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Warren Neil Wright on Saturday, December 8, 2012.

He is predeceased by grandparents Thomas and Lily (nee Sutton) Wright of Southport, Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Sumner) Abram of Southport, parents Amos and Sarah (nee Abram ) Wright , uncles Eber Sutton Wright, Charles Thomas Abram, aunts Winnified Abram, Nellie Wright, Dorothy Wright, cousin Lawrence Eber Wright, and survived by his former wife and lifelong friend Sylvia Graham ( nee Bryan ) of Calgary, his son Geoff ( Nerissa ) Wright of Calgary, daughters Cindy (Tim ) Jacob of Calgary, Nora ( Clint ) Everson of Fort McMurray, his five grandchildren, Sasha Russell of Kamloops, Emma Jacob of Calgary, Johanna, Abigail, and Jedidiah Everson of Fort McMurray, his brothers Barrie ( Rosemary ) Wright of Kingston, and nieces Deb, Karen and Kim of Ontario, and Alan (Suzanne) Wright of Ontario, cousins Pauline ( Barry ) Abram, Philip Abram, Carl (Marjorie) Gore-Herbert of Southport England, Lorraine Wright, Terrance Sutton Wright, and Betty Arnold of Ontario and by nieces and nephews Dallas Bryan, Christine Parker, Kevin Parker and Deb Doerkson of British Columbia.

Warren was born in Crossens, Southport, Lancashire, England in 1930 and attended the King George IV School in Crossens, Southport. Living in England during the war years, he eventually immigrated to Canada in 1948 with his parents and siblings travelling on the Queen Mary entering via New York. Making his way by train to London Ontario, he eventually worked as a t.v. and appliance service man until he joined I.B.M. in 1958 as a technician. In 1959 he married Sylvia Bryan and had three children. He transferred with I.B.M. to Calgary in 1969 working until 1976 where he then joined Petro-Canada as a technician, retiring in 1986, eventually moving to Stavely Alberta in 2000.

Warren enjoyed many hobbies such as photography, computers, and recording music where he recorded various local Calgary musicians, churches and choirs like the Calgary Coral society and volunteered as an editor for Circle 60, a local Calgary tv program. He enjoyed target shooting where he had numerous awards including National Champion of Canada between 1958 – 1971 and Ontario champion in the 1950’s and 1960’s. He also enjoyed reading the whit and humour of his hero Winston Churchill.

Honouring Warren’s wishes, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Chinook Hospice, 1261 Glenmore Trail S.W., Calgary, T2V 4Y8. The family would like to thank all staff for their warmth, caring, respect and compassion.
