WRAY, Frances Edith (nee Grigsby)

September 4, 1928 – Lethbridge, AB
February 18, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Frances Wray passed away at the Bow Crest Extended Care Centre on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the age of 85 years.

Frances was born in Lethbridge, AB on September 4, 1928. She grew up along with her older sister, Margaret and her mother, Edith and father Harry Grigsby, who was the lead barber at the Dallas Hotel Barber Shop. Frances attended Bowman Public School and the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute where she made life-long and rewarding relationships with high school friends, the “ABC Girls”, a sorority group with whom she remained in contact for her entire life.

In 1947 Frances attended and later graduated from Medical Tech School at the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota where she met her future husband, Philip Wray. On March 12, 1949 Frances and Philip were married at the South Minster United Church in Lethbridge. In 1953 they moved to Calgary where Philip began his career as a Professional Engineer for Calgary Power (TransAlta). Frances remained in her home in Highwood until October 2012 when she moved to Arbour Lake Retirement Villas, where she was very happy to be a part of that community. Frances was a long time member of the Calgary Winter Club where she and Philip helped to coach the early swim team. Both she and Philip loved the great outdoors, hunting and fishing at their cabin in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains.

Frances is survived by her children: Dr. Linda (Ross) Weaver, Ted (Marianne), Billy (Cindy) and David (Roxanne). Grandchildren: Andrew, Aaron and Lauren Weaver and Megan, Sarah and William Wray, as well as 5 great grandchildren. Frances is survived by her much loved cousins, Warren and Jean Geiger, as well as her best friend, Mrs. Helen Houston.
Frances was predeceased by her husband Philip Charles Wray on April 20, 2001. Frances was also predeceased by her father, Harry Jennings Grigsby, her mother, Edith Grigsby nee Flinn and her sister Margaret.

A Celebration of Frances’ life will be held at the Calgary Winter Club (4611 – 14th Street NW) on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 1:00-4:00pm. Condolences may be forwarded through Cindy and Bill may be reached at (403) 274-3851.
