Peter was born in Langbank, Saskatchewan on January 29, 1924. He lived in Saskatchewan until his family moved to Calgary in 1934. Peter’s father, who was a world class tennis player in his own right, instilled in Dad his love for tennis. His talent at a young age became apparent when he entered Western Canada High School. He soon began entering and winning tournaments and spending long hours at the Calgary Tennis Club. Peter also served overseas with the Canadian Army where he worked as a radio operator. Upon returning to Canada he married Alice in 1947 and began working at T. Eaton & Co. Peter also had a short-lived career in real estate, before entering the insurance business. Peter happily and successfully made a lifelong career with Van Helden Agencies for over 30 years before retiring in 1989. He was a long time member and Past President of the Gyro Club of Calgary. He will be sadly missed by those who passed through his life.
