January 7, 2014 – Calgary, AB
We are sad to announce the passing of Bett Wood on January 7. Bett was a wife, a mother, an athlete, a teacher and a community supporter. Bett’s enthusiasm for whatever she did and for the people around her was contagious.
Besides her beloved family, Bett had many passions. During a teaching career that spanned three provinces and included the Calgary and Edmonton public boards, she taught a multitude of children to love reading and learning. With her husband, she built their cabin at Crimson Lake and created an oasis where family and friends spent countless happy times. Bett loved travel and took in as much of the world as she could. For many years she had a leadership role in the Elderhostel Society, organizing travel/education experiences for others. Bett loved people and has dear friends dating from her youth as well as wonderful new friends, because always there was room in her heart for one more person.
In later years, Bett’s body betrayed this elegant, intelligent woman and racked her with pain that she met uncomplainingly and with courage, still putting other people’s needs and interests ahead of her own.
Bett was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gary. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Scott (Anne), Dickson (Verna) and Jody (Quentin) and her cherished grandchildren: Graym, Jake, Jenna, Kelsey, Myles, Marika, Darren (Stephanie), Keir (Heather); as well as the Masterman families of Bruce, Susan, Barb and Rick. All will carry Bett’s love and courage in their hearts and pass it on to generations to come.
A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
