WINN, Dieter Manfred Johann

March 23, 1955 – Boppard, Germany
January 9, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Dieter, beloved husband of Lohini “Lo” Winn (nee Kamalanathan) of Calgary, passed away on January 9, 2015 at the age of 59 years. Dieter took his last breath at home surrounded by his family and dogs after a lifetime of battles with his health.

Dieter was born in Germany to Emma and the late Willi Winn, growing up in Bingen. He was the oldest of 6 children, Rainer, Angelika, Birgit, Hartmut and Christiane. Dieter left Germany at the age of 18 and went to England to attend University. He did his Bachelor of Commerce Degree and went on to complete a degree in Hotel Management. He then moved to Canada and became a Canadian Citizen. He was passionate in his work in the Hospitality Industry. In 1990, he was appointed Director of Food and Beverage at the Radium Hot Springs Golf Resort. A week prior to his arrival, as fate would have it Lo left Germany and took up her new position as Assistant Food and Beverage Manager. On November 7th, 1992, Dieter and Lo got married. On September 11th, 1995 they were blessed with Anika, and four years later on August 27, 1999 with Andreas. They moved to Calgary in 2001. Dieter loved animals and from the age of 11, always owned a dog. He also leaves behind his dogs, Duke and Beamer and his parrot, Chi-Chi. Nine years ago, an unfortunate work accident, followed by a surgical error, complicated his existing health problems. He fought long and hard to overcome every diagnosis which was made and somehow his strength got him through. Sadly, he was unable to fight this last one.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Drive N.W.) on Monday, January 12, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through
