Wilson, Ann Winifred Marion

A. Winifred M. Wilson of Calgary passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the age of 92 years.

Win was born on October 20, 1912 in Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire, Scotland. She was the sixth of seven daughters and two sons of Agnes B. and John R. Miller. She graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons and from the Edinburgh Dental Hospital with her degrees in Dentistry and Medicine and practiced pediatric dental surgery with the British Board of Health in Scotland and England until World War II when she met the love of her life, a Canadian, Major Charles Forrest Wilson with the #1 Provost Company while stationed in Crowborough, England. They were married on December 27, 1943 in Edinburgh, Scotland and after the War moved between Saskatchewan and Alberta because of Charles career in the RCMP. Upon his retirement in 1961 they settled in the Southwood District of Calgary, the friendships they formed while there supported and sustained Win for the years following Charles’ death in 1972. Win was an remarkable woman who enriched whatever pursuits she undertook whether it was the War Brides, Canadian Red Cross, or the sixty plus years as a member of the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (I.O.D.E.) on the Municipal and Provincial Levels. She was the financial advisor and partner to her daughter in the ambulance business and thoroughly enjoyed being a part of the “Holy Rollers” with her church family at Southwood United Church and was considered to be a “pretty classy lady” by all who knew her.

Win is survived by her daughter Heather of Yuma, AZ; her special niece Susan (Georges) of Toronto, ON; Charles’ cousin Jocelyn of London, ON; her nine other nieces and nephews; and families in Scotland, England, Australia, and Switzerland; and a group of wonderful supportive and caring friends whom she considered her extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, her six sisters and two brothers, and her husband Charles.
