WILLMON, Gordon James

September 1, 1930 – November 27, 2012

Gordon James Willmon passed away peacefully on November 27, 2012, surrounded by his loving family.

Gordon was born in North Vancouver, BC, and graduated from the University of British Columbia with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1953. That same year, in fact, the day after graduation, Gordon married his lifelong partner, Lil. Gordon accepted a position with Imperial Oil. He and Lil left North Vancouver on a journey with the company that would last forty-three years and take them to many parts of Canada. He thoroughly enjoyed his many challenges at Imperial Oil, made many lifelong friends and was highly respected in the industry. Gordon truly loved his work with Imperial Oil. His career was his passion. Gordon will be best remembered for his quiet leadership, his ability to hear others’ opinions, weigh the facts and reach a consensus with all. During his time with Imperial Oil, Gordon and Lil enjoyed great friendships, camaraderie and support within the social network of the company and the industry. All who knew Gordon appreciated his quick wit and gentle manner. Gordon was a true gentleman.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Lil, of fifty-nine years, his son Jim (Helena) Willmon; daughters, Cathy (Gunther) Heidt and Mary Willmon (Richard Plummer); six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and his two sisters, Joan Southern and Mary Dempster. Gordon was a loving mentor to all his grandchildren and took great pride in their achievements. He will be dearly missed by his entire family.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Beverly Centre Lake Midnapore for the loving care Gordon experienced during his time there. The family is also grateful for Karen Young’s dedication and care of Gordon.

A Celebration of Gordon’s Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.) on Friday, May 17, 2013 at 1:00p.m.  In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate to your favorite charity.
