August 15, 1942 – June 25, 2012

It is with great sadness that the family of Darrell Williamson announces his passing in the early morning of Monday, June 25, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer, at the age of 69 years.

The Canadian Progress Club was an important part of Darrell’s life. He took great pride in volunteering with the Calgary Downtown Club for more than 20 years, serving a one year term as Club President and Western Region Zone Governor during that time. The Doggie-Doo Rodeo was his favorite event. He also enjoyed being a member of The Delta Dawn Breakfast Club for more than 15 of years.

Darrell and his long time partner Louise loved to travel to Mexico for some warmth and relaxation, Manzanillo was a favorite spot of theirs. The yearly salmon fishing trip to the west coast with friends and family was a great source of enjoyment. Summer weekends were enjoyed at the trailer in Sundre. Hockey season was always anxiously awaited, cheering on the Flames from his spot in the Saddledome.

Darrell was very artistic, he enjoyed playing the guitar, photography, made beautiful stained glass pieces and his most recent passion was stone carving.

Darrell made many friends through his career in the oil and gas industry. His circle of friends continued to grow when he moved to the insurance industry, owning his own brokerage for 25 years. Recently retired, Darrell was able to spend a greater amount of time doing the things he loved and spending time with his family.

Darrell is survived by his longtime partner Louise Anderson; son Jason Williamson; daughter Melissa Deck (Irvin) and step-son Marcel Anderson (Lanis). Darrell had a very special relationship with each one of his five grandchildren, Leia Williamson, Steven Williamson (Janine Ouellette), Ethan Deck, Miranda Deck, Nigella Anderson and great-granddaughter Rhiannon Williamson; several cousins from Southern Alberta and British Columbia are also grieving the loss. Darrell was predeceased by his parents Jack and Dorothy Williamson.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area, Suite 106-5960 Centre St SE Calgary, AB T2H 0C1. To Louise Anderson and the Williamson immediate family.
Please accept our sincere condolences for Darrell’s passing. We certainly have enjoyed his humour while travelling, his signing Irish songs, his skilled fishing on the West Coast, and his mastery of stone carvings. Just before he went into the Hospice at a visit’s end as we were having difficulty saying goodbye: He said “Go before we all get too sad with the situation and I will see you over there”.
Will see you over there Darrell,
    Jan and Robert
