WILLIAMSON, Bernice Evelyn (Gough)

December 24, 1927 – Okotoks, Alberta
April 15, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Bernice beloved wife of Stuart Williamson of Calgary, passed away on April 15, 2017 at the age of 89 years.

Bernice, the fourth child of Vivian and Meta Gough was born at the family farm near Okotoks on Christmas Eve in 1927 and she passed away at her home in Midnapore on April 15, 2017.

Bernice grew up in Midnapore and attended grade school at The Father Lacombe Home. For her high school education, she boarded at Sacred Heart Convent and attended St. Mary’s School. After high school Bernice entered religious life with The Sisters of Providence choosing the name Sister Lois Ann. She became a teacher and talked often and fondly of her time teaching especially her time in Dawson Creek. In 1966, she left the Sisters of Providence and settled in Calgary and went to work for The Calgary Separate School Board as an early elementary teacher. Bernice loved the children and it thrilled her when one of her former students contacted her. In the late sixties, Bernice met Stuart Williamson the man who became the love of her life. Bernice and Stuart were married in 1970 and spent many happy years together. After Stuart’s passing Bernice kept a busy social life. She helped at Father Lacombe Nursing Home, drove people to church and she rarely missed her daily coffee break at the Co-op Store on MacLeod Trail. Bernice was proud of her heritage and was active in The Southern Alberta Pioneers and Their Descendants. Bernice will be missed by her many family and friends.

She is survived by her sisters, Muriel and Eileen as well as many family and friends. Bernice was predeceased by her beloved husband Stuart; her two sisters, Margaret and Kathleen; and by her brothers, Harold, Patrick, Frank and Walter.

    To Bernice’s Family,
I was so sorry to hear of Bernice’s passing. I first met her at Father Damien School. She was my partner teacher in my first year of teaching. She was a wonderful mentor – providing me with support, advice and someone to bounce ideas with. It was a great year! I reconnected with her in recent years at St. Patrick’s church. It was fun to talk about old times and former colleagues. She will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

  14. Patricia (Trish) Forster :

To Bernice’s Family: It is with great sadness that I just found out by going through the Obituaries that my Gr. 1 teacher from Notre Dame in Dawson Creek passed away. Bernice has been a big part of our Family for over 65 yrs. We were all so excited when I finally convinced Bernice to come to our 60 yr. Reunion at Notre Dame 2006 & she stayed at our place in Fort St. John. I had so many people tell me she was the best part of the Reunion. We had many great telephone conversations. It was so special when my daughter & I had dinner with her in Calg. & I could introduce my Gr. 1 teacher to our daughter who teaches Gr. 2 in the catholic school division at that time in Calg. I have truly missed our telephone conversations. Bernice you will forever be in my heart. I know you are at Peace & happy to be with your beloved Stuart. Love & Prayers always.
