  2. I want to start out by sending my deepest condolences to the family. Mr Williams was such an inspiration to myself and all his other students. Junior time is never an easy time for teens, but Mr Will taught us the most important of lessons: “to be yourself and to be a good kid” – and nothing else mattered. He will definitely be missed, but his smile and kind attitude will live on forever.

I was a student of Mr. Williams a few years ago at Fairview Junior high. I would always look forward to when I would get Mr. Williams for my gym unit. All the students did. He was one of the best. Not just as a teacher, a role model, or a friend, he was one of the best people anyone could have had the pleasure of meeting. I am deeply sorry for your loss, and I wish you all the best in the future.

    Rest in peace, Mr. Williams.

A great teacher and mentor with a passion for life and health. I will always remember his talks of “be a good kid and you will be rewarded” and “what do you want to look like in 5 years”. Both these messages have stayed with me years after my time with Mr. Williams in junior high school.
You will be missed. My condolences to your family.

  5. Dear Williams family.
I was a student at Fairview junior high. I was not the most athletic kid and was picked on constantly by the other students. I fell into depression through-out these three years and was almost ready to quit. But one day when I was too ashamed to leave to the locker room Mr. Will came in to talk to me and I will never forget the words he said to me. He told me no matter how many times you take a hit you have to get up and fight for yourself, it doesn’t matter what the crowd thinks its what you do that matters. This was the first time in a long time that I had felt like some one cared for me and these words stuck with me. Because of what Rick said to me I am now in university following my dreams. Rick Williams changed—no Saved my life with out even knowing and for that I am thankful. He was a great man who treated students with more respect and compassion than any other person I have ever met.

    May Rick rest in peace

I’m so sorry to hear of Ricks passing. I’d like to send my condolences to everyone closely affected. If it wasn’t for Rick back in 2004-2007, I probably would have never became a coach at age 15. He taught me there was so much more than playing the sports I love. I’m now 22 and starting my 7th season coaching minor community lacrosse and hockey. He is and will remain a role model for my coaching. Thank you Mr. Williams for everything you taught me!

Mr. Williams [as we referred to him around our house] taught all three of our children for each of their three years at Fairview jr. high school. ALL of his former students will remember Rick with great affection. He was a much loved and greatly admired teacher. We understand that even now Rick is serving in a teaching capacity. What a wonderful legacy for a teacher. Well played Mr. Williams!

    Dear Susi, Sheena & Luke…
It’s with very deep hearfelt feelings that we send our condolences with regard to “Tigers” passing. I think back to when I first met Rick in 1974. The story of our first meeting during a “hockey brawl” always made for good conversation and folly no matter what “new” ending was conjured up! Tiger’s smile is truly going to be missed! Rick will always be remembered as a terrific friend and teammate, a caring and attentive teacher, a loving husband and a wonderful father.

    Dear Williams family,

I am very sorry to hear about the passing of Rick. I was a student of his for 3 years at Fairview and I always looked forward to seeing him. Growing up playing hockey I looked up to and admired Rick and loved hearing his stories of playing hockey. Mr Williams was one of the few teachers I had that developed a special relationship with every single kid he taught. I’ll always remember him singing on the announcements, his excitement for every gym class, and most of all his teaching of respect of others. He was one of the best teachers I have ever had, may he rest peace.

    To the Williams family,
We will always remember your husband and father as being such a kind and caring person. Every student he taught felt how important they were to him. Our gratitude to him on one occasion at school were he stood up over other colleagues for our daughter. His belief in her was reassuring and unforgettable. Our favorite memories are of him and Chubbsie. We loved being able to look after her, and truly believe they are together now.

  16. Dear Rick, your suffering has finally ended and like my loving Dominic you can now rest well and enjoy the prize of eternal life. Your gift of connecting with people made you an exceptional, down to earth and loving educator. This cannot be taught or learned it was within you and your character expressed this spirit each and every day. But as long as we did not ask for those lesson plans.. Remember when Jacques played that trick on you? Well you can now take it up with him,Bobby and Bryan. All teachers that gave themselves each and everyday.
It was an honor and privilege to have known you during our time at Fairview and I regret and curse life’s injustices and sufferings that we have to endure during our short stay.
My deepest condolences to the Williams family. A colleague in mourning.

  19. I will never forget Rick doing a ‘Rick Petrowitch’ impersonation on my first day at Fairview. Who was this guy? How could he be so funny and yet so respectful at the same time? As I got to know Rick I was continuously amazed at his energy, and dedication to students. His enthusiasm for coaching and teaching was so valued. Students loved Rick; I loved working with him. I often told Rick that it was a good thing that the job of Junior High PE teacher existed because if not, I’m not sure what Rick would do – it was so perfect for him and he for it. I extend my sincere sympathy and condolences to Rick’s family; his legacy will always be that of a loving husband, caring father and wonderful teacher.

I had the pleasure of having Rick Williams as a true inspirational teacher throughout the 3 years I had attended Fairview Jr high. He had the greatest sense of humor and brought happiness and laughter to any room he came into. After 3 years of attending his gym class I had always thought he never liked me all too well always giving me a hard time all to find out at the end of my grade 9 year I had the honor of receiving the outstanding student achievement presented by him. Rick has truly been an inspirational figure in my life and it is with great sadness to have lost someone so caring and loving. My deepest condolences go out to his friends and family.

    Suzy, Sheena & Luke:
Our deepest condolences to all of the Williams family. From our heart to yours, our family and my staff will keep you all in our thoughts and in our prayers; asking for peace and strength to you all at this time. I know Rick is flying high with all the angels and saints and surrounded by the love of many who have passed before him rejoicing on the other side. For it is some celebration when our family members are reunited with their beloved that they have been waiting and preparing for. As the ship sails out of the harbour we grieve; yet as the ship ports and comes into it’s new destination there is much rejoicing! Know that Rick is in his spiritual body free of all that we know in this world.
May love and grace fill you up today, tomorrow and always, Anne

  27. Mr. Williams was one of the primary reasons I made it through the tough years of junior high. He was able to identify people’s strengths and gave them the opportunity to recognize them themselves. I used to try to pick my gym modules based on which ones he was teaching, and I was ecstatic when he picked me for the school soccer team. He’s one of those teachers who gave it his all and the students noticed and appreciated that. We were never on a different level than him, and he was always there when we needed him, even if we didn’t even realize it yet. I will miss him and I am sad that future generations will not have the opportunity to work with such an amazing man.

  28. I am so sad the hear about the passing of Mr. Williams. He was my gym teacher in elementary school (Cecil Swanson) and then we met again at Fairview Jr. High. We moved when I was in grade 5 and remember learning the he had moved to Fairview school and would be my gym teacher once again for another 3 years. I was so excited!! He would make any bad day a great day. As soon as gym class started you couldn’t help but laugh. He was simply the greatest teacher a student could ever have. I have so many stories I could share but know everyone has the same. I graduated from Fairview 14 years ago and still talk about my gym teacher Mr. Williams. I offer my deepest condolences to the family. Please know your husband, father, brother, son made a huge difference in kids lives and will be forever missed.
