March 18, 1936 – Tredegar, Wales
August 9, 2014 – Calgary, AB
Anne Williams passed away peacefully at the Beverly Care Centre in Calgary on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the age of 78 years. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband Bill; children, David, Gareth, Huw (London, England) and Rhiannon; grandchildren, Jacob, Loleini, Trystan and Owain, and by her daughters-in-law Alyson and Kirsty. Anne was predeceased by her parents William and Olive.
The Beverly Care Centre had been Anne’s home for six years where she was devotedly attended to by her husband Bill who, remarkably, hardly missed a lunchtime or supper visit throughout all her years in residence. The family is extremely grateful for the high level of care and support provided by the staff at the Beverly, many of whom have become friends. Although Anne suffered with Alzheimer’s disease, which had greatly diminished her ability to communicate in later years, there were still many touching moments of laughter and connection that family and staff will remember and cherish.
Growing up in the coal mining area of the Welsh valleys in the village of Llanhilleth, Anne Evans left home in her late teens to train as a nurse in Cardiff and eventually met Bill Williams. Together they made their family home in the picturesque village of Pentrych, Mid-Glamorgan, Wales where they made many close friends and where all their four children grew up. In September 2005, Anne and Bill moved to Calgary to be near their grandchildren and Anne was able to spend many happy hours with them.
Anne will be remembered as a dedicated nursing professional who, over a forty year career, touched the lives of many. She was a constantly busy person with endless energy who loved a good party and her nights out with the nursing girls. Anne somehow managed to juggle a nursing career with running a busy home, often inhabited by grandparents and endless teenage friends of the children who well-knew the welcome and the feed they would get at the Williams’ house. She inherited many talents from her mother; her cooking was legendary (both at home and at the family vacation caravan in St. David’s, West Wales) and she possessed a true talent for crochet, knitting and dress-making. Her kindness, selflessness, help and consideration to others has been a great example to her children.
