May 28, 2014 – Calgary, AB

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Barbara Mary Wilhelm on May 28, 2014 at the age of 83 years.

Barbara was born on September 2, 1930 in Hastings, Sussex, England to Donald and Eva Cameron and grew up in Sudbury, Ontario. As a young adult, she came out west and worked at the Banff Springs Hotel, an adventure she enjoyed and shared in fond memories. She was dedicated 60 year member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she served in a variety of leadership roles including President. Barbara was an enthusiastic participant in activities and events with her sorority sisters. Barbara loved to read and for a number of years volunteered reading to children. She was also an avid crossword aficionado, a daily ritual she practiced with dedication.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband Mike Wilhelm; daughter Mary (Beth) Wilhelm; brothers Allan and Alastair; parents Eva & Donald Cameron.

She is survived by her daughter Rhonda Korpan (Paul) of Regina; sons Michael Wilhelm (Beatrice), David Wilhelm (Annette) both of Calgary; grandsons Nathan, Matthew, Cameron, Steven & Daniel; sister Sheila Wattie (Brian) of Ottawa; son-in-law Andrew Aitchison; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Condolence Messages

  1. So sorry to read of the passing of your beloved mum and grandma. She was an outstanding lady and this is reflected in her families. The Wilhelms I know are the salt of the earth and credits to today’s society. It was interesting to note that your mum was born in Hastings: a beautiful town and it was where my parents met. My thoughts and sympathies are with each of you at this sorrowful time.

  6. David and Anne Bocking :

    David, Michael and Family;

    Anne and I are deeply saddened to learn of Barb’s passing and we extend our condolences to all of you at this time.

    I remember Barb very well. She visited our family in Saskatoon a number of times when I was a young child. And, later, we had a number of opportunities to visit her and Mike in Calgary. I will always remember her for her sly and subtle humor. You could always tell when she was pulling your leg because there was a particular twinkle in her eye that gave it all away.

    We wish you peace as you cope with your loss.

    Dave and Anne Bocking
