March 25, 1934 – Sri Lanka
March 2, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Don “Mervyn” Wijesooriya. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the age of 80 years.

Mervyn was born on March 25, 1934 in Sri Lanka, but left to pursue his education in England at the London College of Printing in 1970. Upon receiving his degree he and his family then made the journey to Calgary in 1974. Mervyn continued to work in the printing industry until his retirement. He was a forever charming and charismatic man with a story for any occasion. He enjoyed many hobbies including painting, gardening and fishing, but in recent years his greatest joy came from his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to know and love him.

Mervyn is survived by his devoted wife Rosemary; loving sons Namala and Gamunu (Lindsay); grandchildren Enzo and Aria; and his brothers.

A Gathering to celebrate his life will be held at Crystal Shores Beach House (403 Milligan Drive Okotoks, AB) on what would have been Mervyn’s 81st birthday, Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. Forward condolences through The family would like to thank the amazing nurses and doctors at South Health Campus ICU for the gracious care given to Mervyn in his final hours.
