It is with great sadness that we, the family of Susan Shirley Whitney, announce that she passed away at her residence on Wednesday, March 5, 2015 at the age of 61 years.
Susan was born to Ronald and Lorraine Smith at the General Hospital in Calgary Alberta. She spent most of her young years living throughout Southern Alberta. In 1971 she married Loyal Whitney of the Tsuu T’ina First Nation. Throughout the years she worked at various positions within Education, and Health. She also spent many years as a member of the WWI, Westoe Womans Institute. She volunteered her time to the community within sporting team events, activities and children. Her greatest pride was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted foster parent to many children throughout the years, adopting many. The legacy she leaves is that she was a mother to all.
Sue is survived by her children, Paul Falhman, Roxanne (Vinnie) Crowchild, Trooper (Shay) Whitney, Renee Whitney, Ryan (Kay) Whitney, Carolyn Dodginghorse, Blane (Lisa) Manywounds, Amos Manywounds, Brian Manywounds, Kelly Manywounds, Shyiesha Manywounds; twenty-one grandchildren; three great-grandchildren Loyalie, Roxxi Rose and Royal. She is also survived by her sister Sylvia Foster; her brother Larry Smith, her best friend Coco, special friends Otis and Buddy and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Ronald and Lorraine Smith; her first love Loyal Whitney; grandchildren Tristen Whitney and Trayden Starlight; her uncles Al and Jim Sewall and her auntie Joyce Runge and cousin Gloria Weibe.
Wake Services will be held at Sue’s residence (5000A Tsuu T’ina, AB via Hwy 22x and 176 Street SW on Tuesday, March 10 and Wednesday March 11, 2015 at 6:00p.m.
A Celebration of Sue’s Life will be held at the Priddis Community Centre (178131 Priddis Valley Road W Priddis, AB) on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 12:00p.m. Graveside Service to follow Tsuu T’ina Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
