WHITE, Linda Christine

March 14, 1948 – September 28, 2011

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Linda White on September 28, 2011, at the age of 63 years. Linda passed away peacefully, with her family by her side after a brave and courageous battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Toronto with her older twin sisters Patsy and Della, Linda graduated from Queen’s University and moved to Alberta where she worked with the Catholic School Board for over thirty years. She loved walking, gardening, and real estate. She was known to many as the very enthusiastic “Varsity Walker”. No matter what the weather had in hold for her she was always out with her dogs. She spent many summers water skiing on Whitefish Lake, and many winters skiing all over the Rockies. Linda loved adventure and would always try new things, like swimming with the sharks in the Bahamas.

Linda is survived by John White, her children, Jeunesse (Todd) Violette, Sean (Jenn) White and Rebecca (Greg) McCrimmon; and six grandchildren, Parker, Anderson, Desmond, Addison, Benson, and Nicole. Also surviving are her sisters Patsy Cook and Della Peterson as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss her greatly. She will be missed by her family, friends, students, colleagues and her always faithful pets Charlie, Nala, and Babe.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W.) on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W.) on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Her family would also like to thank Dr. Vickers, the staff and volunteers at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary and the Agape Hospice for all their care and support. In lieu of flowers memorial tributes may be made directly to the Agapé Hospice, 1302 – 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1B8 Telephone: (403) 282-6588.

  21. Kris Kotarski :

Immensely sad to hear that one of my favourite teachers passed away.

Mrs. White really helped me to get to know Canada after I immigrated here in the 1990s. She was my Grade 7 home room teacher and my English teacher for a couple of years, and I have always appreciated the extra time and effort that she took to help me along when I needed it most. Without her help at a crucial time, I wonder if I could have ever reached a truly native-level English proficiency, pursued a degree in the social sciences or worked as a journalist.

As sad as I was to hear about her loss, I only caught a small glimpse of what a wonderful, caring, considerate and cheerful person she was. I cannot imagine the grief felt by her loved ones and family… My thoughts are with you…

I had the pleasure of having Linda White as a teacher in Junior High School. I will always remember her treating every student as equals and coming into class with a big smile on her face each and every single day. I ran into her several times over the years and she still had that big smile on her face and was always such a positive person to talk to. My deepest condolences to the family on your loss.

  23. Marlene Almond :

Linda and I were colleagues at Brebeuf for six years. She represented all the good things about being a teacher there. Her hugs, her wisdom, her generosity and sharing of teaching materials, her empathy, steadfastness, beauty, intelligence, sense of fun were what gave my day substance.

On a school ski trip Linda tried to teach me how to ski, but as I saw her glide so gracefully down the hill at COP I knew it would take me a very long time to achieve that finesse.

Last spring, by chance, Linda and I were shopping in the same furniture store. How beautiful she is, I thought to myself. We sat down together on a pink couch right there in the store and caught up on each other’s lives for more than an hour. I will always treasure our “serendipitous” meeting.

To her children, Rebecca, Sean, Jeunesse, though I only met you in passing when you were young, unbeknownst to you, I knew you well. I even knew what you were getting for Christmas before you did! I loved hearing about you from Linda during our many chats together over the years. Such a devoted mother, she adored and treasured each of you so much.

God’s earth has lost a beautiful person.
