WESLEY, Elizabeth (Betty) Ann (nee Gray)

March 24, 1943 – January 6, 2013

Elizabeth passed peacefully with family on Sunday, January 6, 2013 at the age of 69 to a courageous end with lymphoma and heart disease.

She enjoyed her retirement years making more memories with joy and gratitude. She had fun travels to Europe, Australia and the US as well as travels that expanded her spiritual growth which included a Middle East Tour, Brazil, Mexico, Rio De Janeiro, Argentina, Iguassu Falls and Panama City. When she was in her scared place, her home, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and many friends, old and new. They filled her up with much love, laughter and joy. Her legacy is her family and she would often say she had an extended family, her White Hat volunteers with the Calgary Airport Authority. She founded the program seeing a need for it and nurtured its growth for over 18 years until her retirement. Elizabeth was socially conscious donating to various local charities believing abundance should be shared.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Tracy, Lorraine (Gerry) and Tanya (Cameron); and eight grandchildren, Amanda (Matt), Luke, Shawna, Jonathan, Harley, Sadie, Logan, and Kellan. She is also survived by her siblings, Bob, Bonny (Ken) and Bill (Joanne).

Elizabeth was predeceased by her first husband Mervin Nelson (Buddy) Bell; second husband John Wesley; and daughter Elizabeth.

Mom, thank you for all you taught us, how you loved us, the strength you gave us and the memories you created for us…We will never forget you. Love always Tracy, Lori and Tanya.

A Celebration of Elizabeth’s Life will be held at the Dalhousie Community Hall (5432 Dalhart Rd. NW, Calgary) on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, 2888 Shaganappi Trail N.W., Calgary, AB T3B 6A8, Telephone: (403) 955-8818.

  2. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Elizabeth. She was a wonderful woman full of light and love.

I met your Mom in 2007 on a trip to the sacred pyramids in Mexico. I don’t think I have ever met a woman who radiated so much love and compassion for other people.

She was always concerned about how other people were doing and did her best to be there for them; give them a word of encouragement and hope for a different outcome.

Quite simply; she is a wonderful example of what love is!

    She will be missed.

Although we only saw her every so often, Auntie Betty taught me a very important lesson. She showed me that no matter what life throws at you, as long as you face it with a smile, you will have strength. She was always smiling, which in turn made those around her smile as well. My thoughts go out to my mom’s cousins and their families, and also to my nanny, who not only lost a sister, but her best friend. I love you!

Our heartfelt sorrow goes out you.

One of the greatest gifts in my life has been sharing part of my journey here on earth with your Mom.

Your mother/mother-in-law/grandmother left quite a legacy. Elizabeth known very well for her zest for life, always loving, caring and nurturing others, the deep and unconditional love for her family, the enthusiasm she had for her vulunteers/programs, her spirituality and of course her love of butterflies.

Now you earned your wings Elizabeth, enjoy the rainforest.

My deepest sympathy to Elizabeth’s family and friends.
I had the pleasure to be one of her other family – the White Hatters – for a short time. She was in love with her job and I am so happy I was to meet and work with her.
I will always remember us going up the excalator, when she reahced over and “fixed” the collar on my white shirt, saying with a smile: “We should always look crisp”. I still try to do just that. Thanks Elizabeth.
May all the good memories be with the family always.
    Sincerely, Elisabeth Johnson

    Dear Girls,
Sorry that I only just found out that you lost your Mom. She sure was fun. You may not want to hear this but back in happier days your Dad told me that she used to pick him up at the airport when he was coming home from business trips wearing only a fur coat! I still think of your Dad every day and know that you will surround each other at this time of sadness as all good families do. May God bless you all. Hope to see you soon, your Friend John and all of us at Patterson.
