WERCHOLAZ, David (Dave) Michael

March 9, 1953 – March 30, 2012

It is with deep sorrow and loss that we announce the passing of David (Dave) Michael Wercholaz beloved husband of Sheila of Calgary, on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the age of 59 years.

Dave was born in Hamilton, Ontario, where he attended Sir Winston Churchill High School. He moved to Calgary in 1977 where he worked in sales; his customers quickly became dear friends and remained so throughout his thirty years in the industry. Dave was a dedicated athlete, strong of body, mind and will. He brought love, laughter and joy to easily forty “world class” buddies whom he cherished as dearly as if they’d been his brothers. He was fun-loving and fiercely loyal to his friends and family and treasured his wife beyond measure. Recently his life was made all the richer with the birth of his first grandson, Slater Carlin Conn.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Sheila, his step-son Carlin (Erin) Conn and his dear grandson Slater as well as his stepdaughter Tracey Conn. He is also survived by his sister Carol, and nephews Jay (Kelly), Hannah and Shaun Whitehorn. He was predeceased by his father Slats Wercholaz and his mother Lavonne Wercholaz.

A Gathering will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Dave was a colourful character, recalcitrant to the end. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Dave Wercholaz, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

Offer Condolence for the family of WERCHOLAZ, David (Dave) Michael

I have had the pleasure of knowing a man I grew up calling “Whip” for most of my life. Every year I looked forward to seeing all the guys that were all considered my uncles. Whip was always one of my favorites! He was always so loving and welcoming. Someone who made everyone laugh all the time. I will miss so much about him and not having him at the annual golf get together will not be the same. I pray for all the immediate family and the other huge family of friends he had to give strength and help keep him in our hearts forever.

I am deeply saddened to hear of the news of Dave’s passing. I have many fond memories of Whip and he will be sorely missed.

When we would meet at a golf course, he would stride forward with a huge smile on his face, a hearty welcome and a crushing hug, as though we hadn’t seen each other in decades. It always made my day.

You will not be forgotten Whip.

I went to school with Dave at ST Helens and Churchill in Hamilton’s east end . We met latter through work in Calgary and he hadn’t changed a bit . We talked about the east end of Hamilton , he had a wealth of information about the people we knew and he seemed to keep up with everything . Dave hadn’t lost the smile he had as a kid and I am glad I got to re-connect . God bless you and your family Dave .

  15. “Fiercely loyal” is right on the mark. Whip would do anything for his friends. As well, Whip was one of the funniest people I have ever known. He was quick with the wit and the main attraction at every gathering. Just a great guy!
