Lorne Wells, beloved husband of Carrol Wells of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at the age of 64 years.
Lorne was born on May 13, 1941 in Medicine Hat, AB. He was the only child of Joe and Harriet. In his childhood he worked at many of the huge remaining Cattle Ranches in South Eastern Alberta. Lorne’s father was a well known Bronc Rider and Calf Roper, so Lorne followed the Rodeo Lifestyle as well. As a young man Lorne began his Rodeo Career with Bull Riding, and Calf Roping. He achieved his Pro Rodeo Card from the Cowboys Protective Association (CPA) in 1959 and went on to win an impressive, Eight Canadian Calf Roping Championships, this record still stands today. He was also named Canadian Champion Team Roper three times. Lorne had many achievements over the years and he held many Roping Clinics to help young ropers. He was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame by the CPRA, into the Red Deer and District Hall of Fame and also the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Pioneers. Lorne’s accomplishments included many trophy saddles, silver buckles, and bronzes as well as a multitude of friends throughout Canada and the United States.
Lorne is survived by his wife Carrol; his son and daughter-in-law Guy and Sherry; his only granddaughter Carlie; his mother Harriet Wells; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends in the Rodeo and Livestock Community.
