WEISNER – Davis Bradley

July 27, 1995 – March 26, 2011

Davis passed away with his family at his side after a courageous 5 year battle with neuroblastoma on Saturday March 26, 2011 at the age of 15 years.

Davis was a huge inspiration to countless people and the Calgary Flames number 1 fan. Davis could often be heard saying, ‘Cancer Sucks’, but he fought his cancer to the end with grace and determination. Throughout his battle he devoted his time and energy to help others and the organizations he was involved with. The caring community that has supported us lifts our hearts. Davis was constantly humbled and awe-struck by the gifts and opportunities given to him by the organizations and selfless individuals.

Davis is survived by his mother Janine, father Brad, sister Jessie, his dog Henry, his bearded dragon Hank and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Davis was a grade 10 student at Lester B. Pearson High School.

Davis’ Celebration of Life will be held at Pineridge Community Centre (6024 Rundlehorn Drive NE) on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. All are welcome. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Davis’ favourite charity, The James Fund for Neuroblastoma Research 625 Whitaker Street #4, Peterborough, Ontario K9H 7L5 Telephone 705-749-3941 www.JamesFund.ca. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. A heartfelt thank you for the love and care received at the Alberta Children’s Hospital and Rotary Flames House.

Condolence Messages

  1. Lorraine Kinsman :

I will always remember Davis as the little boy who showed a school what courage was. Davis was in our class in grade 5 when he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma and subsequently missed nearly a year for treatments. Yet he continued to visit, to share his stories with us and show us all what true courage, human spirit and generosity looked like. He was an inspiration to all the students and staff at Douglas Harkness School, and continued to live his life with that same dignity and grace as he grew older. I caught up again with Davis’s story most recently when he was trying to go to Mexico to build homes for that country’s neediest. It seemed such a ‘Davis’ thing to do and I was deeply touched by his selflessness. I will always remember him as the little boy with the slow, shy smile whose heart grew to be giant-sized as he struggled with cancer. His story will always be with me, and I am so grateful to have had him touch my life and the lives of his fellow classmates. I believe we are all so much richer in spirit for having known Davis.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Janine, Brad and Jessie. Davis will be greatly missed by so many. I am very sad that I will not be able to attend the Celebration of his life. I will be thinking of all of you. Take care.

    Lorraine

  3. Doris Wallace :

I am so sorry to hear that your son, Davis passed away. A few weeks ago I was privileged to hear an interview on the radio in which Davis’s mom participated as that day Davis was not able to do so. I listened to how Davis lived his life with courage and a passion for the well being of others. How Davis lived his life is a true inspiration to others. My hearfelt sympathy goes out to your family.

  4. Teresa Bowles :

Davis has always been an inspiration to me. I was one of his teachers at Douglas Harkness and even today wear the keychain that he brought me back from the Bahamas. I carry his picture in my school backpack to remind me of the kind, courageous human being he was. I will always remember his smile, quiet wit and strength. I was an Oiler fan among the many Flames fans in our class. Davis made a point of a quiet jab here or there. I thought of Davis often and knew that it was fate when I came across an article about him online about him trying to get to Mexico to build houses for those less fortunate. Wow! what a guy. I also remember voting for him when he tried to win a contest to get more electronics for the Children’s Hospital. It is funny they say that school is a place where children learn but it was always the opposite at Douglas Harkness. It was a place where I learned the most, especially from a student named, Davis!
Davis even though our paths didn’t cross in the physical sense after I left Harkness I want you to know that I thought about you all of the time and you will remain in my heart forever. Thank you for being a part of my life.
    Mrs. Teresa Bowles
