  4. To Ruth, Olga and the extended family

Our thoughts are with you tomorrow as you lay Roland to rest with Aunty Patricia. Our meetings were brief but memorable in every respect. We loved them both and had many laughs. The time spent on line with Roland these last 12 years have been filled with many great memories. It was nice to meet you at Pat’s funeral and we hope to meet up again one day soon. In kiwi speak, “another kauri has fallen and a good bugger passes on.” Ivan and I had a brief charge yesterday to remember him.

    Kind regards

  7. Dear Ruth Olga and family

I had the pleasure of meeting Roland and Aunty Patricia many years ago on one of their rare forays to New Zealand, and my abiding memory of Roland was his raucous humour, always accompanied by a liberal laugh and he was one of life’s true characters. It’s a cliche but you don’t seem to see raconteurs like Roland so much now – we are all too serious, sadly.

I have lit candles at our local church for Roland and his cherished Patricia and they are both in our thoughts and prayers. May they rest peacefully. If I ever get to Calgary I will track down his tree.

All the best to you all in your time of sadness, but his memory will no doubt inspire a laugh or two – not as big as his though I would suspect, that would be a challenge!

  8. Kelvin and June King :

To Ruth, Olga and all of Roland’s family,
We feel very lucky that Roland became part of our family too. It was great to see Roland and Patricia out here in New Zealand and our own visit to Calgary was made memorable thanks to our fantastic tour guide. He was a great friend to us and such a terrific husband to Patricia. Sorry this is late but our thoughts are with you and have been since we heard the news. Thanks for keeping us informed, Roland was truly blessed with wonderful sisters.

  9. Farewell Roland. Although I only met you the once, my lasting memory is of someone that brought us kermit the frog and lots of empty bottles to pawn when you left Grandma & Georgies place in Storey Avenue, New Zealand! I know you dedicated your life to looking out for my Aunty Patricia, which I am sure will stand you in good stead. Our best wishes go to Olga, Ruth & families.
    Kind Regards
