WEED, Norma Mary (nee Baker)

December 24, 1912 – November 10, 2011

Norma passed away peacefully at Rocky View General Hospital on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the age of 98 years.

Norma moved from Webbwood, Ontario to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan as a very young child due to the sudden loss of her mother, to be raised by her Aunt Bea and Uncle Percy Ryan. She was an outstanding student, and at the conclusion of her schooling her passion for learning led her to the Teaching Department at the Moose Jaw Normal School. Once graduated, she accepted a teaching position in South Saskatchewan where she met her husband-to-be Clair, and subsequently began a very dedicated family life raising their three children. Norma re-entered the teaching profession in the early fifties at the Calgary Catholic School District. Her passion for learning and excellent teaching skills resulted in a positive learning experience for her students and a long-standing teaching career.

She was predeceased by her husband Clair on September 30, 1980.

She will be sadly missed by her loving children, Jim (Rita), Jean (Roger Andersen), and Patricia (late John Colville); and her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild.

Norma’s life was dedicated to her family, friends and her long standing career teaching in the Calgary Separate School system.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Monday, November 14, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Condolence Messages

  1. I wanted to send a note of condolence to your family. Mrs. Weed was my grade 5 teacher at St. Margaret School around 1965. She was one of my favorite elementary school teachers because of her kindness. I had a nosebleed one day and it stained the yellow dress that my mom had sown for me. She didn’t want me to go home “looking like I had gone to war”. She kindly washed my dress in the sink at recess and removed the stain and gave me a hug. I always remembered her kindness. God bless her and I hope all of your thoughts of her will be filled the joy of having known her.
