George was born in Purple Springs, AB on January 7, 1920 and passed away on March 9, 2018 in Calgary, AB at the age of 98 years young.

George and his parents, George and Catherine Waychik, brother John and sister Pauline moved to Field, BC and then onto Golden, BC in the early years. George was a very proud Canadian who joined the army at a very young age and fought for his country in World War II where he was wounded and decorated for his service. After the war he lived his life in Calgary, AB where he enjoyed his cowboy lifestyle, his love of horses and rodeo. For those who knew George would never forget George. He was a great guy that would always have a drink with you or a two step for the ladies. His later years he lived at the Colonel Belcher and enjoyed his home where he was very well cared for by all the staff and who will miss him dearly.

George is survived by his only son, Mark Waychik, Allyson and his granddaughter Janay who will forever have him in their hearts.

As per George’s wishes, a service will not be held. Condolences may be forwarded through

In living memory of George Waychik, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  6. Tom, Margriet and Max :

Dear Mark and Allyson. Sending you heartfelt condolences. We shall never forget your beloved father. Always very much enjoyed George’s company at the Belcher. How his face lit up when we walked in with Max, our dog. His great sense of humor – you know a lot better than we do! The stories about his horses and dogs, and so much more. We saw your father for the last time at the Vets Angels birthday party, on February 24th. Not just at pub time but also at the actual party – he really enjoyed the music which was not too loud, so we could talk and laugh too.
As you might know, Tom and I were born in Holland. Europe would not have survived without the sacrifices of so many young soldiers, like your father We shall never forget. It is an honour for us to go to the Colonel Belcher.
We will miss your father very much. Wishing you strength.
Tom, Margriet and Max van Dijk – Vets’ Angels volunteers
