WATTLING, Elizabeth Anne

July 8, 1942 – September 7, 2012

Anne passed away peacefully in the hands of love on September 7, 2012. Devoted wife of the late James Wattling, she will be dearly missed by her children Richard James (Diane) and Shari Anne (Trevor) as well as her grandchildren Lynn Brady and Austin Wattling, and great grandchildren Jaxson and Tai Knowles.

Anne was born in 1942 at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto, the daughter of the late Owen and Helen Barton (nee Hayes). As a young woman, she went to teacher’s college and began teaching at 19 years of age. In 1957, she met a handsome and headstrong young man, James Wattling, at a church dance. Five years later, in 1962, the two were married at the same church, Kingsway-Lambton United. In 1967 Anne left teaching and the couple moved to Lethbridge, Alberta, and then moved to Calgary in 1972. Anne and Jim found happiness and laughter in their family, home and travels together until Jim’s passing in 1995. In the second act of her life Anne devoted herself to her family, especially her grandchildren, as well as her love of art, opera, community service (Girl Guides of Canada) and her enormous curiosity and interest in the world around us.

Anne is survived by her sister Joan Rose (Jim) and brother Bruce Barton (Irene), as well as her beloved nieces and nephews Ross and Veronica Barton, Alison, Fraser, Ian and Cameron Rose, and Bill, Patti, James and Chris McKee.

At Anne’s request no services will be held. A private interment with family will take place. Please forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In her memory, tribute donations can be made to Chinook Hospice, the CNIB and the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

Dear Shari & Trevor. I was so shocked by the Anne’s death. My thoughts are with you. I only met her a couple of times but so impressed by her strength. What I remember most was acting as liason at your wedding and her attitude to ordering more wine was “What the Hell”.

If you feel like you can’t go on draw on the love and support of those who care about you.
    Much love

  5. Jack & Shirley Horn :

    Dear Shari, Rick and families,
For the past 40 years , whenever I came home in the evenings from appointments and backed onto our driveway I always noticed the light on in the window and saw the flicker of the big screen TV on in that room and always knew your mother was there. The light may be out now but we will always remember your mother as a bright, bubbly and loving lady that was a very private but always had some caring words for her neighbors.
We will miss her tremendously. Our thoughts and prayers are with you folks.
