WATT – Olive Lily (nee I’Anson)

February 12, 1918 – May 10, 2011

Our Mom was born in Cupar, Fifeshire, Scotland, on February 12, 1918 and passed away peacefully in Calgary on May 10, 2011. She was predeceased by her husband Tom, son Laird, sister Sheila (Kury) and her parents. She is survived by her daughters Gloria and Deborah (Fred) and her grandchildren Laurel (Pudge), Sheryl, Teryl (Dana), Tom (Karen), Tanis (Peter), Travis (Daria) and her great granddaughters Chanel and Dana. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. When our Dad passed away in May of 1956, Mom returned to the workforce, and worked for the Federal Government until her retirement in November 1979. Mom was a long time member of the Rebekah Lodge and volunteered for the Red Cross for many years. She was a member of Chalmers Presbyterian Church and St. Giles Presbyterian Church. Her passion was the Calgary Flames and she was a loyal fan until her passing.

At Mom’s request there will be no memorial service. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society or to The Calgary Humane Society. Our thanks to Doctor Samis, Demi, Maria and the nursing staff of Unit 51, Peter Lougheed Centre for taking such good care of our Mom. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Olive Watt, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Provincial Park, Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Eastside Memorial Chapel, 5388 MEMORIAL DRIVE N.E. Telephone: (403) 248-8585.

Condolence Messages

  1. Marjorie Christie :

Olive will be missed for her lovely sense of humour. She was my good friend and we had many laughs together. She loved her Calgary Flames and always wanted them to win the Stanley Cup.
Keep cheering Olive, love you and miss you.

  2. Peggy Buckler and Family :

    Dear Deborah and Family:
Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Olive was a fantastic woman. Her sense of humour and her positive attitude were an inspiration to others. It was an honour to know her and to have interesting conversations with her. There was never a dull moment during a visit with her.
Olive and Hollie loved discussing their beloved Flames and wearing the Flames shirts on game days.
Olive will be dearly missed and thought of often.

  3. Joan & Bev nee: Armstrong :

Deborah, please pass this message to Gloria, we were childhood friends when your family lived on Edmonton Trail – Both of us were sadden to hear of your Moms passing. I remember Olive sitting at her typewriter practising hour after hour; she was a kind and loving lady whose determination was unmatched; we are happy that you had so many years to enjoy each others company, and have a repertoire of wonderful memories.
