WATSON, John

August 24, 1938 – Glasgow, Scotland
March 6, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

John Watson, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at the age of 79 years.

John was born and raised in Scotland, the second son of Robert and Jeanie Watson. He worked at Templeton’s Carpet factory, where he met and in 1958 married Jessie, his wife of forty-three years.

John has always had a passion for all types of music. You could usually find him listening and singing along to his favorite songs especially those of Jerry Lee Lewis. His other passion was his beloved football team, Clyde, a passion that he passed onto his son and grandson. John was known to his family and friends as the person with the larger than life personality. He loved to make people laugh and was always ready with a story or joke. Many of the same stories were heard over and over by family and friends throughout the years.

John, Jessie and their son John moved to Calgary in 1987 to be reunited with their oldest daughter Sarah. The family was complete again when their youngest daughter Jean joined them several years later.

John is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Gordon, Jean and Gordon; his son and daughter-in-law John and Penny; his two grandchildren, Kayleigh and Sean, who brought such joy to his life. John is also survived by his younger brother Robert; as well as many nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his wife Jessie in 2001 and his brother James in 2017.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Airdrie, 300 Towerlane Drive) on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home.
