WARREN, Kenneth Gordon

WARREN, Kenneth Gordon

April 22, 1928 – January 18, 2012

With thanks for all I’ve been blessed to enjoy, I’ve peacefully left this world to join another and to reunite with my parents John and Mary Warren, my sister Shirley Busch and many others whom I’ve missed. I leave, but not forever, my devoted and loving wife Joan (Reay) of fifty-nine and a half years, my four children of whom I could not be more proud: Lynne Pennington (Rod) of Asheville, N.C., Ken (Pat), Diane, Rick (BJ), six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren, brother John (Judy), sister Olive Fergusson, sister-in-law Lorraine Trim, brother-in-law Jack Reay, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and good friends. My family was everything to me.

I grew up, married, and started our family in Winnipeg, but my sales career carried our family between Winnipeg, Toronto and Calgary, finally settling in Calgary in 1978, succumbing to the tug of our first grandchild. In my earlier years I loved curling, both the sport and its socializing, and was President and Honorary Life Member of the former Valour Road Curling Club in Winnipeg. I became a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 276 (later 285) in Calgary, where I was an active member of its snooker club, enjoying many games and a few beers with my comrades there. Over the past three years I enjoyed playing pool with my new cronies at the Sierras.

I, Joan and my children would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the staff of Rockyview Hospital’s Unit 72 (particularly Joy, who’s an angel) and very special thanks to Dr. Peter Wash for his deep compassion and support, not only for me but for my family. My final week was spent in relative tranquility and comfort in the compassionate hands of the wonderful staff of the Carewest Sarcee Hospice. Thank you all.

My family has unfortunately had to learn much about Lewy Body Dementia. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Alzheimer Society of Alberta and the Northwest Territories, Administrative Office, 10531 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton AB T5H 4K1. Tel: (1-866) 950-5465, www.alzheimer.ab.ca .

A Celebration of my Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Monday, January 23, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Kenneth Warren, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park, Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403)243-8200.

    Joan and family,
Sincere heartfelt sympathy. Your family gave Glen, Randy and me shelter, safety and a feeling of ‘normalcy’… plus friendship that will always be fondly remembered. You and Ken and the children were such amazing role models for family life in Winnipeg
    in the 60′s.
    With love, Judi and family
