Joan graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1952 with a Home Economics degree. She worked for several years as a dietitian in Edmonton, then at the Regina General Hospital. Joan adored her career and she loved her time at the General Hospital. In 1960, she married Chris Warke and eventually moved to Calgary to raise their three children in the community of Wildwood.

With her exceptional organizational skills, she was involved in Calgary Meals on Wheels, Samaritan Club of Calgary, Famous Five Foundation, Lougheed House Restoration, Heritage Park Fall Fair, Calgary Youth Orchestra and Engineers’ Wives’ of Calgary. Through this volunteerism, Joan made many treasured and life long friends.

Joan was predeceased by her husband Chris in 2012. She will be treasured and lovingly missed by her three children, Andrew (Moira), Joanne Hansen (Ty) and Jane Power (Tim); and her four beloved grandchildren, Jordyn and Caeleigh Warke, and James and Bronwyn Hansen. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Mahoney of Ottawa and D’Arcy Joyce (Murray) of Kelowna. Joan adored her dogs and was almost never without one or two under her roof; she also leaves behind her much-loved grand-doggies of Jack Hansen, and Zak, Shiloh and Sheldon Power.

In her last years, Joan received excellent care from the Dr. Vernon Fanning Care Centre, Rocky Ridge Retirement Community and most recently from the Royal Park Care West Facility. Her family is grateful for the kindness and compassion shown to her from her daily Comfort Keepers companions.
