WARD, Veronica “Vera” Mary (nee Kirk)

November 4, 1920 – Victoria, BC
July 10, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Vera Ward of Calgary passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the age of 92 years.

Vera was born in Victoria, BC and after moving to Alberta, lived briefly in Lethbridge before settling in Calgary, where she lived the rest of her life. She graduated from St. Mary’s Girls High School and then as a Registered Nurse from Holy Cross Hospital. Vera nursed at the Holy Cross Hospital for several years before taking time off to raise her five boys. She later returned to nursing at the Alberta Children’s Hospital, where she remained till her retirement. Vera lived with her family on 21st Ave for over 60 years. She was active in the 18th Boy Scout Troop’s women’s auxiliary while the boys were growing up. She dedicated her life to her husband Les and her five boys.

Vera is survived by her four sons John (Karen), Jim (Lynda), Barry (Nicky Osse) and Roland (Frances); grandchildren Dave (Andrea) Ward, Amanda (Jonny) Hehr, Raleigh (Grant) Thomas, Daniel (Sara Howie) Ward, and Amy (Ken Mercredi) Ward; her great grandchildren Carson and Marley Ward, Abbey and Jasper Hehr, Liam Ward and Zayha Mercredi; and her sister Pat Cudney. She was predeceased by her loving husband Les Ward; youngest son Kerry Ward and her daughter in law Irene Ward.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Name Catholic Church (2223 – 34th Street S.W.) on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
