  5. Pat and Hugh Brown :

To the Family of Eileen Ella Walshaw:

In 1930 my parents, Helen and Bill Fennell, were newly married and were transferred to Calgary from Winnipeg. They initially stayed in an apartment block on 12th Ave SW where they met their neighbors, another newly married couple, Eileen and Harry Walshaw. The couples became friends and remained so for a long time. My brother, Bill Jr, was about the same age as Eileen and Harry’s son, Ted, and Marguerite was just a year younger than I. Marguerite and I spent time together as youngsters having sleep-overs and being friends. The wives, although they had moved into homes in different parts of the City, started a Sewing Club. The Sewing Club endured for many years and, in fact, that same group gave me a bridal shower when Hugh and I were married in 1963 (50 years ago).

I always found my ‘Aunt’ Eileen to be a calm, kind person who approached life and its challenges with grace and elegance. It was my great delight to have her meet my daughter, Shari, at Eileen’s 100th birthday party. Eileen will always be a great inspiration as a life model for all of us to emulate.

Please accept our condolences on your loss.

    With Sincere sympathy,

    Pat (Hugh) Brown

Sorry I can’t be with you today, but I will be there in spirit. Eileen was a very dear H+H Alumnae friend and I treasured the iris plants that she shared with me. They bloomed in my yard for many years.
My sincere sympathy to you all,
    Barbara Kwasny

  7. Frances Chapman :

To the family of Eileen Walshaw,
I met your grandmother many years ago, in the 50’s, and kept in touch periodically. What a wonderful woman she was! I enjoyed her company very much, she was so alive. The last time I saw her was near her 100th birthday, and she told me that she had gotten her driving license! I am sorry for your loss, she loved all of you.
