WALLS, Howard Wayne

September 21, 1941 – Blackville,NB
March 26, 2014 – Calgary, AB

Howard Wayne Walls beloved husband of Lorraine Walls of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the age of 72 years.

Howard was born and raised in Blackville New Brunswick, the 6th of 7 children. He is survived by his life long friend and loving wife of 50 years, Lorraine and his son Howie (Sacha), daughters Lori and Kara (Chad) and much adored grandchildren Matthew, Ella and Claire. He is survived by his brothers Roland and Winsor(Joan) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Howard was a passionate man who worked tirelessly throughout his life for the happiness of his family. He graduated from UNB with a BSc in Civil Engineering in 1964 and he and Lorraine were married that fall in their hometown of Blackville, NB. Howard’s Oil and Gas career began in 1966. He and his family made Calgary their lifelong home in 1979. In 1986 he became owner and president of Holoka Enterprises Ltd. He ran this gas marketing business until present day.

Howard’s generosity was evident in the many causes he supported over the years. His hometown of Blackville on the Miramichi River always held a place of importance in his heart and he made several generous contributions to the churches in the village over the years. He was also a founding member of the Dr V.B. Walls bursary fund at Naparima College in Trinidad and gave generously to many worthy charitable organizations. He was a Shriner and also belonged to a number of masonic and eastern star chapters, mother chapter being Northumberland Lodge #17 New Brunswick. He was a Royal Arch Mason and life member of Crescent Chapter #24. He and Lorraine were Worthy Past Matron and Patron of Mizpah Chapter #6. He was a member of the Inglewood golf course for 35 years which was a favorite, almost daily, gathering place for friends.

Howard and Lorraine tried their best to spend every August with their large Miramichi family especially when their children were growing up. In later years the two would drive cross country many times to return to their roots. Howard loved a road trip.

He was happiest spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. In 2013 he took all the children and grandchildren on a Disney Alaska cruise and that will forever be a treasured memory.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. 2. Robert Hemsing :

I feel your sadness deeply, Lorraine, Howie, Lori, Kara (the Holoka bunch), and family, for upon hearing the sad news of Howard’s passing this morning, I too lost a very special friend. It seems like only yesterday, though perhaps it was likely the end of January or into February, when he phoned and in his ever-present Liberal (with a capital L) voice said, “Hemsing, let’s go out for some of that Greek food, I like that baked cheese,… you order”. And amidst a bit of Liberal-chiding we would renew our fast and strong friendship and talk about the things of life. We only met in 1992 when he came to help us with the esoteric business of marketing our small gas interests, but he served us well and charmed us from the first day, as I’m sure he’s done for so many of people he touched. And we’ve been close friends ever since. Would that we could all share his warm, uplifting character and perspective on life. A character he was, with a wit and the wisdom to match, a special friend. And though I’ve met only Howie on a few occasions, through your husband, and your father, I feel I know you all, for he was that proud of his family. In one of our last conversations, Lorraine, he talked about us getting together for a supper.
    I have such fond memories.

May God bless him and welcome him into His home.

    Robert Hemsing

  7. Bob Hefferton :

I just became aware of Howard’s untimely passing away through Robyn . Needless to say, I am very surprised and feel your loss, even though it has been many years since we lived so close together and watched our families growing up !
Howard had a great personality, could argue with the best of us, was very caring and enjoyed life. He always spoke highly of his family and we shared some great moments together telling ” stories ” as only those of us that grew up in Atlantic Canada can attest to ! Not the least of which was his radar detector on his drives back east and how well they worked ?????
I join with family and friends in expressing my deepest sympathy at this time and may the good memories last forever in our minds.

I was deeply saddened to learn of Howard’s passing. I remember well my visits to your home with Joan and Winsor and the Liberal debates/promotions that often ensued. Howard so loved the banter! I know his passing will leave a void in your family that can never be filled. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

    Dear Lorraine and Family
My sincere sympathy to you. I was saddened to hear of Howard’s passing. It has been a long time since I have seen you and not seen Howard since he stopped the traffic on 90th Avenue, abandoned his car to help a elderly person across the street. Kind and generous Howard.
    You are in my thoughts.
    Sincerely
